Resizing an Image Using iPhoto
If you use iPhoto to manage the photos on your computer, you can easily use it to resize the photos you want to use on your website.
- Launch iPhoto, and in the Organize view of your photos, click the image you wish to resize for your site to select it (it will then have a blue outline around it).
- In iPhoto 4 and iPhoto 6, select Export.. from the File menu; in iPhoto 5, select Export.. from the Share menu.
- Click the button next to Scale image.., then enter the width (in pixels) that you want the photo to be, then click the Export button;

a couple tips:
- Unless you have a compelling reason for it to be bigger, most images should be no larger than 600 pixels wide in order to fit properly on the page
- The screen resolution of most computer screens is 72 pixels per inch, which means a 300 pixel-wide image is approximately 4 inches wide on a screen (this, of course, depends on the resolution settings that any individual user has set on their monitor, but this is still a good guide to go by.)
- The Save dialog box will open so you can direct iPhoto where you want it to save your resized photo. I recommend you create a folder in your Documents folder, name it "Website files" and get in the habit of saving ALL files you'll be putting on your web site, whether they are images, PDF files, Word documents, etc., into that folder. This will save you time when you are uploading them to your web site as you'll just have one place to look for files for your site.
After choosing where you're going to save the photo, give it a filename that will help you to know what it's an image of, making sure that you include the ".jpg" on the end of the filename, and then click the OK button.
