About the District

The Ann Arbor Public School District serves the City of Ann Arbor and parts of eight surrounding townships covering 125 square miles.

Our Schools

20 elementary, 1 K-8 open school, 5 middle schools, 3 comprehensive high schools, 3 alternative high schools, 1 pre-school and 1 adult education program.

Our Enrollment

The total K-12 headcount enrollment as of September 2011 is 16,544.

Our Staff

The district employs approximately 3,000 full and part-time staff members.  Approximately 81% of our teaching staff hold a master's degree or above.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Ann Arbor Public Schools is to ensure each student realizes his or her aspirations while advancing the common good, by creating a world-class system of innovative teaching and learning.

Strategic Plan Goals:

  • AAPS will continuously work to achieve the eight goals of the Strategic Plan.
  • The Strategic Plan Goals may be viewed on our district website at www.a2schools.org

Transportation Services:

  • Washtenaw Intermediate School District began providing AAPS student transportation services in the fall of 2010 through the Washtenaw County Transportation Consortium.
  • The Ann Arbor Public Schools utilizes 127 buses, covers 107 routes over approximately 125 square miles and travels 1.6 million miles annually.

Food Service:

  • Food Service serves over 1.4 million meals during the school year.
  • Provides vocational training & job experience for special needs students.

Facilities:

  • We maintain 640 acres of real estate and 3.5 million square feet of building space.  The average school building age is over 50 years.
  • 18 out of 33 school buildings were built before 1960.
  • The district has received national recognition for participation in the Green Lights program, which saves energy while reducing costs.
  • The District has received national recognition for Skyline High School and was awarded the nation's largest LEED Silver Certified High School.
