Ann Arbor Public Schools Going Green
Winter 2008
The AAPS Physical Properties Department is excited to announce that the Ann Arbor Public Schools are going green! Green cleaning is the process of cleaning to protect health without harming the environment. Green Cleaning products are now used in all Ann Arbor Public Schools.
The Goal of Green Cleaning…
Our goal of implementing the green cleaning program is to provide a healthier environment for our students, staff and visitors in the schools. A healthier environment reduces absenteeism. Healthier indoor air quality allows students to be more alert which leads to a better learning environment.
What is involved in a green cleaning program?
Chemicals that are green seal certified are dispensed through a dilution control system.
Paper Products in Schools…
Usage of paper products with post consumer recycled content are fed through controlled dispensers to reduce the amount of paper with each use. New dispensers are installed at each school as bond activities take place.
Mops and Vacuums...
Microfiber cloths and mops, which capture more dust, as well as vacuums with HEPA filtration systems are used at each school.
Staff Training…
Custodial staff receive training on new cleaning chemicals, microfiber use, HEPA filtered vacuums and removal of floor finish without chemicals.
