Abbot March Is Reading Month: Read to Know and Grow! Throughout the month of March, Abbot will celebrate reading and nature with our theme, “Read to Know and Grow!” This theme ties in with our exciting new outdoor Schoolyard Habitat project that is taking shape in the courtyard between C and D centrums. Our MIRM assembly on Tuesday, March 16 will feature a presentation by native habitat expert Ashley Miller who will encourage our students to read about and to care for our natural environment.

This year students will be challenged to set their own reading goals: a set number of minutes per week.
Students can count any time spent reading for their minutes, whether they read independently or are read to by someone else, in or out of school.

Parents are asked to
•    help students set their reading goals
•    keep track of their reading minutes each week
•    sign their reading logs each week
•    make sure reading logs are turned in to Mrs. Postema during library classes (or any time) each week

We will recognize students who meet or exceed their weekly goals by posting their names on our Read to Know and Grow Tree just outside the Media Center. Students who meet or exceed their goal for every week of March will also receive a special Read to Know and Grow prize!

We hope all students will participate in the reading challenge, and we are counting on your support to make Reading Month a success!

HAPPY READING!!!

Media Center Classes   Abbot students attend Information, Literacy, and Technology (ILT) classes once or twice a week in the Media Center with Mrs. Postema. Students learn how to find, organize, and present information using both print and technology-related resources. They listen to, read, discuss, and write about quality literature, both fiction and informational books. Lessons incorporate technology instruction as appropriate. Students also check out books for reading in the classroom and at home. Students may spend additional time in the Media Center working on class assignments that involve research, technology, and reading. For more information about ILT and the Media Center, click About the Media Center.

Hours  The Media Center is open on school days from 8:48 to 3:42. Please visit your Media Center!
