Dear Colleague:

The Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education recognizes the diverse community that exists in Ann Arbor.  It is of particular interest to the district to promote supplier and contractor diversity and to engage firms who represent the constituency of our school district.  AAPS is actively engaged in the solicitation of bid proposals and participation from qualified minority, female and other under-represented firms, especially those firms who maintain offices within the district for the services of our bid proposals.

To ensure that efforts are made at every level of the District’s procurement efforts, potential awardees who are invited to a post-bid/pre-award conference with the Construction Managers (CM) must be prepared, within 24 hours of the bid date and time to disclose their own lower tier subcontractor bid solicitation and lower tier subcontractor information to the (CM) and APPS at the contract post-bid /pre-award meeting.  This information is being requested to determine Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Women Business Enterprise (WBE), and LOCAL BUSINESS participation at any tier.  The CM and APPS strongly encourage MBE, WBE, and LOCAL BUSINESS participation for the AAPS’s 2004 Bond Projects and encourage prime bidders to encourage this participation within their own subcontractor and vendor procurement.

The State of Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services prevailing wage rates are a requirement of this project.   The CM reserves the right to demand evidence of compliance prior to releasing payments for work in place at no additional cost.

Construction Managers for the 2004 Bond / Sinking Fund projects are:

Granger Construction
Jerry Brand
6267 Aurelius Road
Lansing Mi 48909
Barton Malow
Chuck Worek
26500 American Drive
Southfield MI  48034

All contractors who are interested in working on projects for the 2004 Bond and Sinking Fund should check the AAPS Bids web site or the www.michigan.gov/doingbusiness web site (on the left side click on “Bids & Proposals”; then on the left side click on “School Organization Building & Construction”).  This site is where all posted bidding can be found for Ann Arbor Public School construction.

Thank you for your interest in helping Ann Arbor Public School achieve high safety standards, reduce risks while increasing operational efficiencies and obtain a quality product.

Sincerely,

Julianne E. Chard,
Bond Director
