Bach Elementary School
is an
"ESL Magnet School"
Bach Elementary School is a magnet school for ESL (English as a Second Language) students
who reside in the Bach and Eberwhite school attendance ares. ESL students who attend Eberwhite have the choice of going to their home school or registering at Bach School.
The Ann Arbor School District has made Bach a magnet school so that ESL students can receive direct English language instruction during the school day. ESL students join other students from the Bach neighborhood in regular classrooms. Teachers continue to receive special training for working with ESL students. Bilingual tutors are available to help with classroom content learning. Families also enjoy participating in many Bach family events. The Bach Parent Teacher Organization has generously funded many bilingual books and language learning materials for the Bach Library. These materials are available for all students. Bach sponsors many family programs including a monthly Latino Workshop, a Buddy system for the Latino families and a phone chain. We also have periodic information meetings for our Japanese parents and information workshops for all the ESL families. A once a week "Homework Help" time after school is sponsored for grades 2-5. These programs are generously funded by our School Improvement Team.
The district will provide transportation to Bach school for ESL students who choose to attend Bach instead of going to Eberwhite. If you any have questions about ESL assessment or ESL instruction, please call Bach School at 734-994-1949.

| Every year in early May, Bach school flies Koinobori on the school flagpole. In the 2011-2012 school year we bought new flags with funds from the Japanese Business Society of Detroit. Two of our Japanese students prepare to raise the koinobori for the school. |
