WELCOME
to the Burns Park Vocal Music Website
The Burns Park General Music program is fun! It is an eclectic mix of song, movement, the building of music skills, and composition. Additionally, we learn about music history and multi-cultural music. The music program strives to support classroom teacher curriculum as well as train students specifically in music concepts and skills. The music classroom at Burns Park tends to be very active. Students, at various times, sing, play instruments, act out songs and stories, listen to a wide variety of music, and create music.
Concerts for various grade levels happen at various times through the school year. Concerts through the years have had varied themes, from “Fifty, Nifty History” to “Turn of the (Last) Century (Ragtime) Songs” to “I’m Gonna Let It Shine (A History of the Civil Rights Movement Through Its Songs)” to "Classical Music Comes Alive" to "The Beatles!" to Folk Tales enacted with the students playing ALL of the music music on Orff instruments. The 5th graders have a unique program where composition is the focus of the year, with our study culminating in a concert of original compositions by the 5th graders.
