Community Dialogue Meetings on the AAPS Budget
The Board of Education of the Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) invites members of the community to participate in one or more meetings on the AAPS financial situation. The District must cut $17-20 million from the general operating budget in the coming year due primarily to the decisions of state policymakers. The Board would like community input to develop the principles we should follow in making cuts, and strategies to lessen the need for such cuts in the future. The Board of Education is encouraging two-way communication with the community and board members will be in attendance to engage in conversation. The format is such that open discussion will occur. The content of each meeting will depend on the interests and questions of the attendees. We anticipate discussion will include topics such as:
We appreciate your participation in the budget process. For questions, please contact Amy Osinski at 994-2232 or osinski@aaps.k12.mi.us.
NEW The Governors Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sport has awarded Clague a certificate of participation for Bike to School Day 2013
The Next Bike or Walk to School on Friday, April 26!
Clague Middle School was one of six schools in Michigan to receive Safe Routes to School (SRTS) funding for the 2012-2013 school year. Clague is working with the Clean Energy Coalition to hold walk and bike to school days at Clague this spring, implement pedestrian and bicycle safety education through advisory classes, and organize a bike festival in conjunction with National Bike to School day in May. In partnership with the City of Ann Arbor, SRTS funds will help fund the installation of sidewalks and crosswalks on Nixon Road, install flashing beacons on Green Road, and make crosswalk improvements at the intersection of Green and Nixon roads in the summer/fall of 2013. The total project award was $180,065.
Clague Middle School will be holding a total of eight walk and bike to school days this spring, the first one will be on Friday, March 8th! These events serve as an opportunity to rally students and staff around the importance and benefits of biking and walking to school. Not only is biking and walking a fun way to get to school, it’s also a great way to get more exercise, improve air quality around Clague, decrease congestion, it’s less expensive than driving, and, if you needed any more reasons, biking and walking to/from school has been linked to higher test scores!
Students and staff who walk or bike to or from school on the following bike + walk to school days will be enter in a daily prize drawing! Individuals that participate in six of the eight designated days will be entered in a grand drawing! More details at http://cec-mi.org/clague/
