CR AT A GLANCE

What IS a CR?

  • A contracted learning experience taught by an “expert” member of the community
  • Awarding high school credit
  • Meeting either elective or compulsory graduation requirements
  • Monitored by certified teaching staff
  • Students meet with their volunteer instructor for 2 to 3 hours a week and work independently for another 2 to 3 hours a week for .5 credit or demonstrate mastery of the state standards
  • District wide common assessments may be required to grant credit in specific areas

Example:  Say you want to study Farsi and your uncle speaks fluently, may even have some teaching experience, or supervisory experience of some kind.  He is confident he can provide a structured course in Farsi with assistance from a professional, certified teacher.  Your uncle is the expert in the language of Farsi; we are the experts in education.  He delivers the instruction with our regular monitoring throughout the semester and we provide the grade and credit.

NO RETROACTIVE CREDITS ARE AWARDED

Why TAKE a CR?

  • To provide enrichment beyond the traditional curriculum
  • To accommodate a learning style preference
  • To explore potential career options
  • To experience college curricula (You must have a 3.5 GPA)
  • To explore a particular interest
  • To perform community service

How do I FIND a CR?

How Do I APPLY to take a CR Class?
Detailed instructions are available on the link to the left of this summary.

To submit a CR Application, go to http://moodle2.wash.k12.mi.us/aaps. Go to High Schools > Community Resource Program >Community Resource - Fall 2012. Students will use their existing server login (gradyearlastnamefirstname) and password (student number). Note that sometimes a server login will include your middle initial.

Parents may enter the aaps Moodle site as a guest to view the information.

Once on the CR Program Portal, you will be directed to create a Pre-Registration form, print it and obtain the needed signatures. You will also need to attach a syllabus.  A Volunteer Certification form from your CR instructor must be attached, if applicable.
