![]() Field Day 2006
Once again Field Day was a
great success. I want to thank all the parent volunteers for
their help in making this a success. I want to specially thank
Niki Tracy for all her help. I couldn't have done it without
you. Look forward to doing this all over again next year.
Below
is an explanation of all the games we'll be playing at field day, along
with which station your son/daughters class is starting at.
FIELD DAY GAME EXPLANATION SHEET 1. GET WET TUG OF WAR (Bahr 1) Split group into two teams. The team that can pull the other team into the pool is the winner. The kids are not allowed to wrap the rope around their arms or waist. 2. GREAT WALL OF CHINA (Bell 4) All students line up across the baseline. Choose two people to be the emperors. The emperors must remain on the center line but can move laterally on it. When the emperors call “Great wall of china” students may run across the area marked out and try to cross the center line without being tagged. If tagged, tagged students must join the emperors on the center line and try and catch other students. 3. UP THE RIVER (Brann 2) Place eight to ten cones parallel to each other forming a column. Divide class equally into three groups. Players in the river, between the cones try and run up and down the river from end line to end line. Players on the outside of the river attempt to roll balls and hit the “canoes” with the ball below the knees. If this happens players change places and the runner becomes a roller and the roller becomes a runner. 4. THE BIG CHILL (Brecht/Child Care K) Split group into 3 equal teams. Each team will have a large jump rope and each student will have a cup filled with water. The object is to jump rope 3 times and see who has the most water left in their cup at the end. 5. COLD POTATO (Cieglo 2) Using a pin, poke a hole in a balloon. Then fill it with water, so that it becomes a time bomb with a slow leak. Players stand in a circle and toss the balloon around. The idea is not to be the one holding the balloon when it runs out of water. Make groups of 3 or 4. 6. SOCCER BALL PARTNER WALK (Dekeyzer 2) Students (in pairs) try to move down to the cones and back carrying a ball between them without using their arms and hands. 7. MUMMY WRAP ( Hane 3/4) Divide the group into 2 teams. Each team will have a mummy(student on their team). The mummy will stand with feet together. The first person in line will wrap the mummy with toilet paper five times around, then pass the roll to the next person in line. The team that runs out of toilet paper first and has put their used paper in the trash bags wins. 8. WATER STATIONS (Mrs. Steward K) Students may get a drink of water and relax for 8 minutes. Please encourage them to rest. Remember only one cup per student. Remember to use the trash cans. 9. TURBO WHIRLWIND (Harris 3) Divide students/class into two groups. One group will be the throwers and catchers, the others the runners. The throwers and catchers stand on a circle about ten feet in diameter or in circle formation. The runners stand behind a line or spot in a single file line. On your comand, the throwers and catchers begin tossing the yarnball around the circle counting as the ball is caught. The first runner in line runs around the cones that have been set-up. When the runner gets back to the cone where they started from, the next person in line goes. Once each runner finishes the circle throwers stop, add their total catches, and teams switch sides. 10. HAMBURGER RELAY (Lawther 4) Hamburger Relay- Use 4-8 lines. Each line leader balances a small-ball “hamburger” on a frisbee “tray”. On your signal the first waitperson moves to a distant line using the locomotor skill of choice. If a student’s ball falls from the frisbee to the floor, he/she must perform 3 good jumping jacks before continuing. After the waitperson reaches the distant line, he/she returns to the starting line and relays the “tray and burger” to the next player. Locomoter Skill: Running, Skipping, Gallopping, Hopping. Do all 4 if there is time. 11. BUCKET BRIGADE (Vermeulen 5) Two teams. Students start at one end and take turns running to the trash can full of water and filling their cup. They then run back to their line and fill the container. 12. SLIP N SLIDE (Monash 5) The students must take their shoes off before going on the slip n slide. They must also have a bathing suit on or clothing that they can get wet . The students go as many times in the allotted time(before the horn sounds). 13. WATER STATIONS (Bradley K) Students may get a drink of water and relax for 8 minutes. Please encourage them to rest. Remember only one cup per student. Remember to use the trash cans. 14. GOBLIN SQUEEZE (Rupp 1) Students line up in two teams with the first person from each team removed from the line and seated with a one liter bottle placed above his head, inside a hula hoop about 50 yards from their team. The second person in line will stand inside a starting hoop. On the signal to begin, the students inside the hoop will dip their sponge into the trashcan full of water, run to the seated student and squeeze his water into the bottle. The squeezer then takes the sitters place and the sitter returns the sponge to the next person in line and then goes to the back of the line. This will continue until all team members have had a turn to be the sitter or the bottle is filled. If all team members have had a turn to be the sitter and their bottle is not filled, students will stop on the signal and event volunteers will check the bottles to see who has the most. If time remains, have students repeat activity. 15. WATER LINE RELAY CARRY (Schneider 1) Divide the students into 2 teams. Each team will have an empty milk carton. Students will make one line for each team. On one end will be an empty milk carton and at the other end will be a trash can with water and a cup. The idea is to pass the cup with water in it from student to student down the line to the empty milk carton, then the student who fills the milk carton, runs back to the trash can, fills the cup and the cup gets passed back down the line. The team with the most water in the milk container at the end is the winner. 16. SLIP N SLIDE (Miller 5) The students must take their shoes off before going on the slip n slide. They must also have a bathing suit on or clothing that they can get wet . The students go as many times in the allotted time(before the horn sounds). 17. SPLASH TAG (Thomas 3) 4 players are designated as being it. Players run away from it, who tries to tag them with the wet sponges on their shoulders or back. Once tagged, that person becomes the new it, gets the sponge wet and tries to tag someone else. |
