Dicken Safety Patrol
Every fourth and fifth grade student has the opportunity to become a member of the Dicken School Safety Patrol. Students who ride the bus help with the flag and serve as helpers with Kindergarten students at lunch and at the end of the day. They may be assigned posts two or three months of the year. Students who don’t ride the bus have posts before and after school on a corner near the school and at outside doors. These safeties will be on post every other month, if I get enough safeties. Everyone who becomes a safety should show courtesy and respect to students, staff and other members of the community, be on post promptly, wear his/her safety belt on outside of clothing, and perform duties as expected. It is a privilege to be a safety patrol member and requires a great deal of responsible behavior. Safeties are rewarded during the year with hot chocolate and lunch-hour gym in the winter, recognition in the Safety Patrol Showcase, and an end-of-the-year pizza party. If a student’s behavior or attendance becomes a problem, every effort will be made to help work the problem through. If it becomes necessary to relieve that person of his/her duties, you will be notified. Being on Safety Patrol is a commitment for the entire year. Please do not sign up for this if you think you can't commit for that length of time.
