The minimum age of employment of minors is 14 years old (there are exceptions)*. Teenage workers who are between the ages of 14-17 and not exempt from the Youth Employment Standards Act must have a work permit before beginning work.
Work permits can be obtained at Huron High School General Office. The completed work permit must be kept on file by the employer for as long as the student is employed.
A work permit may be revoked for poor academic performance.
Types of Work
Teenagers covered by the Act may not work in any occupation determined to be hazardous. This may include but is not limited to: contact with hazardous substances, driving (delivery driver), work on construction sites*, and occupations that involve power driven equipment*.
