GUIDELINES
C.O.E/Work Experience allows a student the opportunity to receive credit each semester for a paid job placement. The amount of credit that the student receives depends on the hours accumulated, job performance, and adherence to the Policies and Guidelines stated below.
- The maximum credit allowed for C.O.E. is 1.0 per semester, Work Experience is 0.5 per semester.
- The Training Agreement (which takes the place of a Work Permit) must be completed and signed by the student, parent/guardian, employer and C.O.E Coordinator and returned with all signatures to the C.O.E Coordinator before the first day of work.
- A Monthly Time Sheets, signed by supervisor, documenting days, times, and number of hours worked must be turned in to the C.O.E Coordinator at the end of each month. The hours worked by the student will be monitored by the C.O.E Coordinator. The hours accumulated during the semester will determine the amount of credit the student will receive for his/her job placement. Full Credit for C.O.E is approximately 270 hours per semester (average of 15 hours per week). Full Credit for Work Experience is approximately 180 hours per semester (average of 10 hours per week).
- The student will be evaluated every nine-weeks period by his/her work supervisor. This grade will be the grade received for C.O.E/Work Experience and will be reflected on the students transcript.
- The student is expected to stay on the original C.O.E/Work Experience position for the entire school year. Any contemplated change in employment must be discussedand approved by the C.O.E Coordinator before the job change is made. Failure to do so could result in loss of credit.
- If the student is fired from the job, the student will no recieve credit for the C.O.E/Work Experience placement with the exception of extenuating circumstances.
- If as student is absent from school becuase of disciplinary action, the student is not to report to work. Any variances must be approved by the C.O.E Coordinator.
- If the student is absent from school, permission to go to work should be discussed with the C.O.E Coordinator. It is the responsibility of the student to notify the employer if he/she will not be reporting to work. The student should notify the employer as soon as the absence is known.
- If a student loses credit in the Related Instruction course, the student will also lose credit for his/her C.O.E placement.
- The student must stay in frequent contact with the C.O.E Coordinator to keep the Coordinator informed of concerns regarding placement.
