Only 1% of job applicants send a thank-you note to folow up on a job inteview, according to corporate personnel directors. Often, they are the ones who end up getting hired, because of a simple courtesy makes them stand out from all of the other applicants with similar credentials.
Young people sometimes think it's silly or "corny" to thank the person they have interviewed with, but actually this is accepted practice and is much appreciated by people in the business world. And it's just about mandatory for "informational interviews".
Send a typed letter or note the same day or the day after the interview. Use the letter to restate any positive points you want to make including anything you might have forgotten to say.
Writing a thank you note after an employment interview is a must! In fact, some employers think less of those interviewees who fail to follow-up promptly.
Plan to send out your thank you letters as soon as possible (preferably within 24 hours) after your interviews. If time is of the essence, it's appropriate to send a thank you letter via email.
Here are thank you letter samples applicable to a variety of employment-related situations. Take some time to edit the thank you letter you choose, so it reflects your personality and your interest in the new job.
The following is a sample format.
