CHALLENGE DAY

Adult volunteers needed for Huron's Challenge Day, November 7th
 1) Be an adult workshop participant (7:15 a.m.-2:45 p.m.)  2) Help with set up and registration (7:00-8:00 a.m.)  or clean up (2:45 to 3:45 p.m.)  3) Donate snack items (cases of water, bags of apples, large multipacks of snack chips or other peanut free snack items).

SENIORS - YEARBOOK
Attention all seniors. Senior photos are due to the yearbook office by October 28th. Turn them in on CD, flash drive, or submit a physical picture to room 4311. Remember that in order to be in the senior pages, you must submit a photo by October 28th to room 4311.
 
COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY WRITING
Attention seniors and juniors! Struggling with your college application essays Ð or haven't started? "Write Your Best College Admission Essays & Applications." PARKING
Attn Juniors and Seniors: If you are parking a vehicle on campus you need to purchase a parking permit by the end of this week. Tickets will be issued for vehicles without permits beginning next week. $60

SYMPHONIC AMBASSADORS OF MUSIC
Calling all musicians! Huron is opening a new performance club, called the Symphonic Ambassadors of Music. Our performing group will hold concerts, as well as perform at local charities, schools, and retirement homes. Gain performance experience and get volunteer hours along the way! Perform as a soloist or in an ensemble. Pianists and singers are also welcome. Our first meeting is next Monday, October 24 during 7th/8th hours in the Band Room (room 7124). We hope to see you there!

COSMETOLOGY
Cosmetology students! Cosmetology is closed on Friday and we will be meeting in the Career Center during your class hours. If you have questions, please stop by the COE Office and see Ms. Eisley

LUCID DREAM
Have you ever been interested in dreams? Wondered why you dream? Or have been curious if you could control them? Well all those questions and more can be answered by attending Huron's newest club-- The Lucid Dreaming Club! Learn how to lucid dream in no time with help from those who have been doing it for months! The first meeting will be on Tuesday, October 25th in Mr. Tucker's room, 6209. Be there 7th or 8th hour. There will be free food and drinks. For more information contact Mr.Tucker.

KING SCHOOL RUMMAGE SALE
King Elementary School, located on Waldenwood Ave, Ann Arbor, is having a rummage sale on Sunday October 23,2011. Rummage Sale to  Support the 5th Grade Class Trip to Space Camp! October 23, 10-4 p.m. All are welcome to attend the rummage sale.

HURON MEN’S SWIM-DIVE TEAM PRESEASON ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
The Huron Men's Swim-Dive team will hold it's preseason organizational meeting on Wednesday, November 16 at 6pm in the Huron Cafeteria.  All interested in joining the team should plan to attend.  This year the team has new head coach, Eric Stanczyk.  Eric has been the assistant coach for the previous five season, so he knows Huron Men's Swimming!  Brad Huttenga will return as our diving coach.  Brad was MHSAA Division I Dive Coach of the year last year!  Team captains this year are Jim Riegger and Charlie Maher.  For more information check the team website:   http://www.a2schools.org/huron.m_swimdive/men_s_swim___dive_home   The first day of practice will be November 21.  New team members of all grades and levels of experience are welcome."

BRICK PAVERS UNDER THE ARCH
Be sure to see the new brick pavers under the Arch. Unique Landscape LLC did a great job! The engraved bricks will be installed soon.

Oh wow, tonight is the Huron football fundraiser! At halftime, a helicopter will be coming in to drop balls on the field. This should be a fun event!

Grocery Store Card fund raiser update
Parent Suzy Stein suzystein@yahoo.com has grocery store cards for Busch’s and Hillers. Please send her your mailing address and which cards you would like to receive.  If you have a Kroger card, you need to update your information on the Kroger website each year in April. If you haven’t done the update yet, Huron is not receiving any funds from use of your card.

 

Write Your Best College Admission Essays & Applications 
Sign up now for either the upcoming Sept. 28 AAPS Rec & Ed class or Oct. 22, taught by Liza Atreya, consultant and former Huron parent.

Grades 10-12. (Parents are welcome with student.) What do you say in an essay and application that will reveal your unique, positive qualities? What are colleges looking for? With the competition for college admission tougher than ever, well-composed essays and applications can often make the difference. With actual examples of successful essays, learn what makes a compelling essay and application and how to highlight your own characteristics. Optional: Bring 2 copies of a draft for possible feedback. If you haven’t begun, this class will get you going with ideas!
