SENIOR AWARDS NIGHT
This annual event is a must-see! Parents are welcome to join the students in acknowledging the hard work of our 2012 Graduating Class. Monday June 4, 7:30 p.m., Meyers Auditorium
 
GRADUATION June 6
Huron Graduation will be on Wed. June 6, 6:00 p.m. at EMU Convocation Center
 
GRADUATION PARTY UPDATE
(Junior & Senior parents/guardians, this is a long note, please read all and sign up to help out!) This party is important to keep all our graduates safe.
Help is needed at the following times, labeled bright yellow in the spreadsheet.  I have attached the current spreadsheet, showing the following needs for June 6th and 7th.  The party will take place at EMU's Olds/Robb Student Rec Center, http://www.emich.edu/recim/directions.htm Decorating takeS place in the morning of the 6th, then there is a bit of a lull, food starts coming in around dinner time, students start arriving at 10 pm, lock-in is at midnight, party ends at 5 am. Students will each be assigned a large IKEA bag that they can use as a coat check and to keep their other items, and into which prizes will be placed for them.  This bag area needs to be staffed throughout the night and students will pick up the contents of their bags at the end of the night, when some big prizes are given away. Help is needed with:
-Wednesday June 6th - graduation day, Graduation ceremony starts at 6 pm at EMU Convocation Center
Party to do list:
7:00 - 10:00 pm - PIck up food donations from restaurants along Plymouth Rd route
7:00 - 10:00 pm - PIck up food donations from restaurants downtown
7:30 - 10:00 pm - Generally just keep an eye on things at the site- likely junior parents
9:00 - 11:30 pm - To receive food deliveries and do food preparation
9:00 - 10:00 pm - Help set up the luminaria to light the path from parking lot
10:00 pm - 1:30 am - Chaperones/floaters
10:00 pm - 1:30 am - Staff IKEA bag area
 
Thursday June 7th early morning
1:30 am - 5:00 am - Chaperones/floaters
1:30 am - 5:00 am - Staff IKEA bag area
2:00 am - 4:30 am - Serve food, supervise, clean up afterwards
4:00 am - 5:00 am - Help give out prizes
5:00 am - 9:00 am - Take down, pack things into UHaul truck
9:00 am - 11:00 am - Unpack UHaul truck at storage area at Beal's, North Main Street

SPECIAL OLYMPICS FUNDRAISER
Help send Huron athletes to the Olympics! Special Olympic participants will be collecting returnable soda bottles EVERY WEDNESDAY MORNING in May!!! Bring one bottle - bring a bag of bottles – be a part of our fundraising. If every River Rat brings in only 5 returnables, we will have $800!!!! Special Ed classes will be doing curbside collection in the mornings OR bring your bottles to room 6218A anytime. Remember – EVERY WEDNESDAY MORNING!!! Support Huron athletes, we thank you!
 
PTO THRIFT SHOP
1. Memorial Day 50% Off Everything Sale is almost here.
2.  Manager is calling for more donations.  We have expanded donation hours to include Sundays from 12 noon to 4pm.  Weeding through household clutter? Donate to us! We are in need of donations -- especially household goods -- in order to keep our inventory rolling along.  
 
HURON PTSO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Many thanks to parents and students for stepping forward to help with the PTSO next year. We still need a Financial Secretary, a Graduation Party Treasurer, and Graduation Party Co-Chair.  Also, Registration ‘stuff’ has been done by students and adults during a few days in the summer. This is a great opportunity for student volunteer hours over the summer! Please contact me if you are willing to serve our school. Thank you for your consideration.

CR AND ONLINE COURSES
CR & Online Pre-Registration for Semester 1, 2012  begins on May 11, 2012 at 3pm in the AAPS Moodle. Deadline to turn in completed CR and Online Registration Packet is June 4, 2012 at 3pm. More information and instructions can be found on the CR website

COE
Seniors! If you are receiving credit for your job, you MUST have your work hours recorded through May 18.  You MUST have your hours turned in before you pick up your cap and gown.  Missing hours worksheets are considered an obligation.  Visit the COE Office if you have questions.

HURON PLAYERS CAR WASH May 26
The Huron Players are having a car wash this Saturday from noon until 4:00 in the Busch's parking lot on Green Road. Come out and support the Huron Players!"

MULTICULTURAL SHOW
The December, 2012 Huron High School Multicultural Show informational
meeting and sign up date is Tuesday, May 29th in Room 2205A during
early and late lunch.  All interested groups should send a
representative to attend the meeting.

Yearbooks are still available for pick up or to purchase.  Yearbook staff will be under the arch during both lunches until Wednesday of this week.  Come get your yearbook before the year is over!

SUMMER WRITING INSTITUTE FOR YOUTH
This year's VOLUME Summer Institute for the youth will be from 6/24 - 6/29. We'll have two poetry workshops, a fiction workshop and an MC workshop. Kids who are interested can register online @ www.neutral-zone.org. We will once again be offering sliding scale scholarships so people can pay whatever they can afford from $0 - $250.

My name is Laura Eggen. This summer I will be bringing a small group of Spanish students from the city where I lived and taught in Spain to Michigan to experience our culture and practice their English.  I am looking for caring and open host families to invite one of these teens (13-16 years old) into their home for one month. June 25th-July25th.  I have attached an informative flyer. I'd love for these Spanish students to have a great experience here in Michigan.
