Nutrition
and Foods is a one-semester course, which fulfills an elective credit
from the Ann Arbor Public Schools. This course is designed to provide
students preparation. Students also have opportunities to participate
in various laboratory experiences. These experiences focus on creative
and nutritious food choices. Yes, you get to eat everything you make!
Upon successful
completion of the class, you will receive .5 (1/2) credit toward graduation.
During this course we will cover the following topics and areas of study.
Units
of Study:
- Nutrition
and its relationship to food preparation and health
- Food
safety and kitchen sanitation
- Social,
cultural and media influences on our food choices
- Eating
habits and lifestyle trends
- Table
manners
- Exploration
of job and career opportunities in the Food Technology and Service Industries
In
addition, a variety of learning methods are used in this class. Through
discussion, guest speakers, notes, laboratory, computer research assignments,
quizzes and tests, students will earn their final grade for this class.
