Parenting/Child Development
Parenting will provide you with knowledge of the basic skills and attitudes needed o become responsible and caring caregivers. This course examines personal readiness to become a parent, explores issues related to raising healthy children, builds positive adult-child relationships, and provides practical experience with children.This course offers opportunities for you to learn to provide nurturing and challenging environments for children from birth to age five. Infant simulators are used to give students the experience of responding to the demands of caring for infants. Upon successful completion of the class, you will receive .5 (1/2) credit towards graduation.

  • Rewards and responsibilities of parenting
  • Readiness of parenting
  • Growth and development of children
  • Nurturing children
  • Health, safety, and welfare of children

Baby Think It Over You will have the opportunity to carry a Baby Think It Over, which is the electronic baby that cries at random intervals. If this is something that you cannot fit into your schedule, or would rather not do, an alternative assignment will be provided.In addition, a variety of learning methods are used in this class. Through discussion, guest speakers, notes, laboratory, computer research assignments, quizzes and tests, students will earn their final grade for this class.
