GROOMING AND ATTIRE
-The latest fashions and styling trends may not be appropriate for clinical settings.
-Long hair must be pulled back and not be in your face when providing patient care.
-Bathing and use of deodorant is essential.
-Clothing must fit properly, be clean and of good repair.
-Jeans or sweat type pants do not look professional with a lab coat and are unacceptable.
-No tee shirts, sweat shirts, tank tops, tops that show midriff, low cut tops, low cut pants. Abdomen should not appear when arms raised. Button lab coat to avoid this happening.
-Skirts must be knee length and shorts may not be worn.
-Shoes should be soft soled and of reasonable heel height.
-In placements that allow tennis shoes, they must be clean and in good condition.
-No open toes or heels , including sandals. Socks or nylons must be worn. No bare legs.
-No smoking or gum chewing in clinical.
-In order to do your best remember to eat right and get proper rest.
-It is especially important to eat breakfast before clinical.
ATTITUDE - BEHAVIOR
-Students are guests in clinical areas. Always thank your mentors.
-No disruption of the clinical atmosphere will be tolerated.
-Voices should be kept appropriately low.
-Students are to conduct themselves in an adult manner with safety awareness at all times in clinical.
-The discipline policies for Community, Huron and Pioneer High Schools will apply to students of Health Sciences Technology while in clinical.
Any dishonest actions during clinical will result in disciplinary action and may result in removal from the program.
CONFIDENTIALITY
-In accordance with the Privacy Law and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act(HIPAA), no patient’s name, condition or other information is to be discussed outside of clinical or the classroom. Hospital privacy regulations and confidentiality statements will be signed and followed. The patient’s privacy is to be respected and protected.
ATTENDANCE - PUNCTUALITY
-Student must notify teacher, clinical location and school attendance office if unable to attend or if student will be tardy.
-Students must verify attendance at clinical by having their attendance card signed daily. -Misuse or forgery of this card will result in disciplinary action and possible removal from the program.
-Absences of students from Community High School must be excused from the Pioneer attendance office. Phone 994-2135.
-Your grade will be lowered for failure to follow this procedure.
CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS - TEAMWORK
-Students are encouraged to share information and ideas and help each other perfect skills and -complete assigned tasks.
-Students are expected to be alert and aware that emergencies may arise in clinical areas.
-Students should stay to the right when walking in hospital corridors.
-The enthusiasm, interest and work students invest will determine the success of the program and each student’s personal gain.
CELL PHONES - Cell phones may not be used during clinical in patient care areas. Students must be aware of cell phone regulations/courtesy at each of their placements.
