What if you want to............

Log on to Sitemaker

  1. Using any web browser, go to the Ann Arbor Public School web site where you will be able to access
    GVC Sitemaker: http://www.aaps.k12.mi.us/aaps.gvc/site_administration_links
  2. Scroll down to the side-bar links and select GVC SiteMaker Administration. This will load the GVC Sitemaker Administration page.
  3. Select Configure an Existing Site from the list of options.  This will take you to the Login access area where you will enter your email address as your User Name and the password you have been given and lick Login.
    If this is the first time you will enter the site, please change your password to something that you'll remember.  If you have forgotten your password, when you click on the prompt, Sitemaker will send you an email with your password.  A dialog box may appear that says that you will be re-directed to a site that is not secure.  Click Yes to continue.


Change Your Password:

  1. Go to http://www.aaps.k12.mi.us/apps/WebObjects/GVCSiteMaker-AAPS.woa/wa/changePassword
  2. Click on the link to SiteMaker Administration at the bottom of the page.
  3. Click on Change Login Password
  4. Enter username and old password, then new password twice, and click Submit


Configure Overall Appearance - Main Page

On the Main Configuration Page (or "Main Page"), select Configure Overall Appearance

  1. Configure the banner, navigation bar, footer, and publish content.
  2. Click NO to publish during the development phase
  3. Click Submit & View for changes to be saved.  The page will be displayed.
  4. Click Return to Main Page in Top Menu.

 

Configure Home Page - Main Page

  1. Select Text/and or Image and click Configure Home Page
  2. Under Enter Text, deselect "Display carriage return as line break"
  3. Delete any text from the editable section at the bottom of the page.
  4. If you have an updated and fast internet connection and have MAC OS10 you can click the Editor button and key your text right into the text box. When you have finished, make sure that you click the save button.  When you click the save button, you will be taken out of the editor.  You will have to reclick the Use Editor button to finish keying your text.  Recommendation is to save often even when you are forced out of the text editor.
  5. If you do not want to or cannot create your text in the Text Editor you can create an MS WORD file containing the content you want to display on your page.
  6. Open the Web Page File (.html file) using any text editor (e.g., Notepad)
  7. Choose "Select All: from the edit menu to select the html source code.
  8. Copy (Control C) the text and past it (Control V) the html source code into the editable section of the GVC Sitemaker home page setup.
  9. Click "Submit & View" and verify that content is correct.  If it isn't, open the MS word file again that contains the content, edit it.  Save as a Web page again, and repeat steps 7-9.


Edit Your Home Page:

Click "Return to Main Page" in Top Menu

  1. Select the text editor, and either edit your document or add a new document to your main page.

 

Name Your Site:

  1. On the Main Configuration Page, click the "Configure Overall Appearance" button
  2. Enter the name of your site into the Banner Text Area fie

 
Add a Page to Your Site:

  1. On the Main Configuration Page, scroll down to Website Sections, and click the "Add a New Section" button.
  2. Select the type of page you want to add, give it a name (which will be the name of the link added to the navigation bar) then click the Add button.
  3. Modify the page you have just added.
  4. Click the Submit button to save your changes, or Submit & View to save your changes AND view your page in a new window

Edit a Page on Your Site:

  1. On the Main Configuration Page, scroll down to the Website Sections, and click the "Contents" link for the section you want to work on.
  2. Make your changes to the page/section.
  3. Click Submit (or Update for some sections) to save your changes.

Display an Image on a Text and/or Image Page:

  1. Follow the steps for Uploading a File above to upload a GIF or JPG image file to your site.
  2. Click Return to Main Page
  3. If the image will be on the home page, click the Configure Home Page, otherwise click the Contents link for the Text and/or Image section you want the image to display on.
  4. In the Arrange Image/Text section at the top of the Change Contents page, click the small circle below the layout you wish your page to have.
  5. In the Select Image section of the Change Contents page, click the pull down menu to the right of "file:" and choose the image you wish to display on the page.
  6. Make any changes to the text for the page in the Enter Text box, then click the Submit button to save the changes.

If you want to insert an image into a table within your web page:

  1. For now you have to type the path of the file that you want to link to (e.g. /site.name/files/sample.jpg) into the box toward the bottom of the Insert Link/Image dialog box if you use the editor feature.

 

Enter and Edit TEXT but do not know HTML:

  1. When first creating text content for a Text and/or Image section type, you may opt to enter text into the Enter Text Field or go directly to the HTML editor.
  2. An HTML editor is available to help the user create and edit HTML code.
  3. If you want to use the HTML editor, a newer version of Java will need to be downloaded from the Sun website (http://java.sun.com).  
  4. To access the HTML editor, click on the Use Editor button.  Once selected, a second browser window is opened containing the EditLive program.
  5. From this browser, options are presented enabling the user to enter the section content and easily develop any HTML code required.  
  6. HTML code can be developed for such things as adding additional images, creating links and tables, and enhancing text display.
  7. Once the content and HTML code have been created, click the SAVE button to automatically transfer the developed content and HTML into the Enter Text area on the Text and/or Image section.

 

Add a new web section:  (these show up in navigation bar)

  1. The first section is always for the home page for that section.
  2. Select the add a new section button
  3. Select the type of section you want
  4. Name:  Key the words as you want them to appear in the navigation bar.
  5. Next is to decide on the linking of the site.  
    a) Either link to section is shown in navigation or
    b) Link to section is hidden from navigation
