Meet Russel Rabb!

russell_rabb.jpg"I believe this is a great opportunity to give back to the community I grew up in. I have learned and experienced so much over the years as a Stand-Up Comedian, its time to share that knowledge with others. I am very excited to teach this course!"

Not a stranger to the stage, Russell has acted in over twenty plays and musicals. He also has appeared in multiple blockbuster films such as Ali with Will Smith, and 8-Mile starring Eminem. His DVD entitled My Mom Thinks I’m Funny, continues to be a top seller from coast to coast. He is also featured in a variety of television commercials including Lexus and Mega Millions Jackpot. His voice can often be heard on several nationally syndicated radio programs including Howard Stern and The Tom Joyner Morning Show. He has worked with some of the best entertainers the biz like Michael Colyar, Tony Rock, Deray Davis, Tommy Davidson, and Shawn Wayans. He had a re-occurring role on the Starz channel original series “Looking For Stars”. Keep a lookout for this former United States Marine because this is only the beginning!

Meet Anne Rhoades!

anne_rhoades300w.jpgThe best part of the RecEd classes is the cool people you meet.  I always felt I learned from my child students in the drama classes  and the Cinema Club groups open up new points of view all the time.  I feel in this age of "electronic" communication,  which sometimes is isolating, that face to face experiences are more important than ever. Film study and theatre have been my two life-long passionate interests.  I 've worked as an actor at various venues in SE Michigan, taught drama classes for children and written and produced theatre pieces and plays.  Performance Network's Children's Theater Network  is a long-standing activity, especially the touring shows.  I am proud to be a founding memeber of the Brass Tacks Ensemble, an independent company of writers and actors based here in Ann Arbor.  Cinema Club emerged from my belief in film as the great art of the 20th century and the fact that it needs to be seen in a theatre as a shared experience to be truly appreciated.

Meet Mark Ziemba!

mark200w.jpgAs long as cultural arts instructor Mark Ziemba can remember, he has appreciated the the power of stories to transport people to new places. Listening to yarns his father told, watching pictures his mother painted and intrigued by adventures his older brother led, Mark was inspired to make his first film when he was 11. He shifted from films to art, literature, theater, music and photography, but was ultimately moved by the tales of everyday life to work as a journalist, editor and photographer. A Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts and Detroit Area Film Teachers award-winning filmmaker, Mark has taught film appreciation through Rec & Ed's Cinema Club modern film discussion group since 2008 with his fellow instructors Anne Rhoades and Andy Jetzen. He appreciates the perceptive discoveries made by participants and the surprise of the next movie. One of his most memorable experiences was walking into the beautiful Michigan Theater for the first time, the place where Cinema Club enjoys many of its movies. He is pleased to be helping host Movie Night, a new ongoing film series in a classroom setting that will highlight the magic of all kinds of cinema from across the globe. Follow the excitement of these journeys at http://twitter.com/a2cinemaclub and check out Rec & Ed's film activities, which welcome all levels of experience.
