Green Adventures Camp Raynor Organic Farm
| Green Adventures Camp has been involved in restoring the old Raynor Berry Farm in Dixboro for 4 years. Here are some of the benefits and opportunities resulting from this effort: |
A place to maintain an apiary as an educational resource - we have 6 active hives this year. (increased pollination, honey production, hands-on learning)
A place to grow a substantial food supply. (fresh local food for campers, families, staff, Food Gatherers, volunteers and the local community)
A place to learn first hand where food comes from as well as healthy cooking options. (raw food, grilling, camp snacks from school kitchen, food service kitchen with Chartwells)
A place to learn about and experiment with earth friendly farming methods. (permaculture, aquaculture, eco-friendly irrigation, companion planting, crop rotation, weed control)
A way to connect local community resources. (local food movement, Farm to School movement, farm markets, local restaurants)
A place to explore and study an abandoned farm - now slowly becoming a "natural area" and loaded with invasive plants. (camp activities & projects, environmental education field trips, nature study)
