Open Swim
Rec&Ed offers open swim times to allow people the opportunity to use the pools however they would like. A certified lifeguard is on duty at all times to ensure the safety of all participants. Although no instruction is given, many people use this time to practice swim skills learned in other classes.
There are currently two different types of open swim provided by Rec&Ed:
Family Open Swim
This provides an opportunity for families (or individuals) to enjoy the water or practice newly learned skills. Each session is approximately an hour long and toys, noodles, kickboards, and barbells are available for everyone to use. You may also bring your own equipment and toys. Please note that each person must register for this class and on-site registration is not accepted.
Therapeutic Open Swim
This provides an opportunity for adults to use a warm-water pool. The temperature is kept between 88-96 degrees, which is perfect for those who may have arthritis or other physical ailment/impairment. Kickboards, noodles, and aqua belts are available for everyone to use. You may also bring your own equipment. Please note that on-site registration is not accepted.
Please be advised of the pool rules, which will be enforced by the lifeguard(s):
- In order to swim in the deep end you must pass a basic skills test, which includes swimming the length of the pool and treading water for 1 minute.
- If your child is not fully potty trained he or she must wear a swim diaper.
- Please do not run on the pool deck.
- No one over age seven is allowed in the opposite gender locker room.
- Adults must enter water before their children.
- Each child who is unable to stand in the pool must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
- Parents must pay attention to their child at all times.
- Please put all floatation devices and toys away at the end of class
