Designing the Virtual Museum Rooms

Step 1.  Prepare the slide.
1.    Open your Virtual Museum exhibit in PowerPoint.
2.    Go to the Blank slide (should be the first slide).
3.    You will need the Drawing Toolbar to create your virtual museum.
a.    Select View on the top menu bar.
b.    Select Toolbars.
c.    Select Drawing.

Step 2.  Create the floor and ceiling of the museum exhibit room.
1.    Select the rectangle tool from the Drawing Toolbar.
2.    Click, hold, and drag to draw a rectangle that fills the entire bottom half of the slide.
3.    Select Fill Color.
4.    Select Fill Effects.
5.    Select Texture.
6.    Click on a texture and click OK.
7.    Repeat steps a through d to make the ceiling on the top half
8.    Select Horizontal from the Shading Styles menu.
9.    Select Single Color and choose a color from the Color menu.
10.    Click OK.

Step 3. Create the front-facing walls of your museum.
1.    Select the rectangle tool.
2.    Click, hold and drag to make a rectangle touching the left side of the slide.
3.    Draw another rectangle touching the right side of the rectangle you just made.
4.    Draw a smaller rectangle in the middle of the slide. This will become the back wall of your museum.

Step 4. Create the left and right receding walls of your museum.
1.    Select Lines from the Drawing Toolbar.
2.    Select the Freeform tool.
3.    Click and release on the top right corner of the left wall.
4.    Move the cursor to the top left corner of the middle wall.  Click and release.
5.    Move the cursor to the bottom left corner of the middle wall.  Click and release.
6.    Move the cursor to the bottom right corner of the left wall.  Click and release.
7.    Move the cursor back to the starting point at the top right corner of the left wall.  Click and release.
8.    Repeat steps 1 through 7 to make the right side receding wall.
9.    Use Fill Color, Fill Effects to choose a color or texture for the walls.

Step 5. Adding depth with walls.
1.    Select the back wall by clicking on it.
2.    Click on the square that appears at the bottom right of the wall and drag it to the left, making the square smaller.
3.    Select the Rectangle from the Drawing Toolbar.
4.    Click and drag on the upper right of the back wall, about ½ inch from the top and drag to make a box that connects with the right side wall.

Step 6. Creating a door on the right side wall.
1.    Select Lines from the Drawing Toolbar.
2.    Select the Freeform tool.
3.    On the line that makes the bottom right side wall, click and release about an inch from the back corner.
4.    Move the cursor straight up, about an inch from the top of the wall.  Click and release.
5.    Move the cursor toward the front of the wall about an inch, making sure the line is parallel to the top of the wall.  Click and Release.
6.    Move the cursor straight down to the bottom of the wall.  Click and release.
7.    Move the cursor to where you started drawing your door.  Click and release.
8.    To create a floor in door to simulate a hallway click and release on the point where you started and ended the door.
9.    Move your cursor to the right and click on the line that makes the right side of the door. Click and release.
10.    Move your cursor along the bottom line of the wall up to where you started. Click and release.  This will make a triangle at the bottom of the door.


Step 7. Painting the walls.
1.    While holding the shift key click on each wall so they are all selected.
2.    Select Fill Color in the Drawing Toolbar and scroll down to Fill Effects.
3.    Select Texture and choose a color for your walls.
4.    Click on ok.
5.    To color the floor in the hallway where your door is click on the triangle at the bottom of the door to select it and repeat the steps 2-4.
6.    Select the back wall of the hallway and follow steps 2-4.
