How to Create Your Own Podcast

Script Tip: Paste your script into the Stickies program and create a floating window.  This will allow you to see your script while recording your podcast (tip from Jim Beeler's Apple PD).

Step 1) Open Garage Band in your applications menu and go to “File” and “New”

Step 2) Click on “New Podcast Episode”

Step 3) Save as “Your Full Name 1” onto the desktop

Step 4) Click on either “male” or “female” voice so the appropriate dot turns red (enable or disable recording)

Step 5) Obtain a hard copy of your text to read from

Step 6) Click the lower, larger RED record button and begin reading your text aloud into the small microphone located on the right hand side of your monitor. Do not stop reading until you finish. When finished click the Play button to stop the recording

Step 7) Go to “File” and “Save”

Step 8) Go to “Share” and “Send podcast to iTunes”

Step 9) Your selection will pop up in iTunes playing. Pause it and go to “Advanced” then “Convert Selection to MP3" (NOTE: If you don’t see the “Convert to MP3 option follow the steps listed: Click on iTunes menu at the top, click on preferences, click on General tab, go to import settings, select Import Using MP3 Encoder)

Optional Step) Changing the preferences in iTunes (Note: you only need to do this step if "Convert to mp3" was not an option in your "Advanced" menu

Step 10) After converting your file click on the file in the iTunes window once and go to “File” and choose “Show in Finder.”  This will open a window where your podcast is saved

Step 11) Delete the m4a version of your podcast and drag the mp3 version to the desktop
